Persistence of the pedophile (hoax)

Despite two previous articles on this site, I still get emails and comments about the Becoming a Father or Mother was the Greatest Gift of my Life group on Facebook. Paranoid Facebook members claim that this group is a destination for pedophiles who browse fan pages for pictures of children.

If this were true, then it would be disgusting. But, guess what? It isn’t true. In fact, anyone who looks at the group’s Info page will learn that it was started AFTER complaints about the group started making their way through the internets. Some guy just thought that it would be funny to make the group in response to the fraudulent, unnecessary warnings. I’m not really sure that I get the joke, but it does point out how easily some people are tricked into believing the worst possible scenario.

What I find truly ridiculous about the warning is that it would hardly matter whether you were friends with the group or not. Any pedophile could spend time looking through Facebook for pictures of kids. Since you’re not allowed to have nude pictures of anyone on Fb, it doesn’t even matter. Perhaps someone gets off on pictures of clothed children. So what? Yeah, I think it’s pretty gross, but this person isn’t actually causing any harm to children. Masturbating to pictures of clothed children is creepy as can be, but it isn’t illegal.

There’s only  so much that you can do to protect yourself and your children from dangerous elements in the world. Why, then, even bother with elements that can’t have any effect on you?

Furthermore, how would such a group operate without giving its true intentions away to members? Seems like quite the charade when they could find much more racy movies online.
