More pedophiles on Facebook

For some reason, many Facebook hoaxes focus on pedophilia. I suppose it’s a sensitive subject that gets people riled up. Anyone looking to upset others just has to make up a few sentences that support the pedophilia fear. Hey, you don’t even  need any evidence!

Here’s the latest pedophilia Facebook hoax:

Police have advised ALL PARENTS, Please don’t enter your baby into the NEXT Baby competition on facebook or any other networking site. It has nothing to do with NEXT it has been set up by a peodophile ring!! please copy and paste! It aint a joke or a random broadcast

The idea here is that parents who submit pictures of their children for the NEXT Baby Competition are likely handing over masturbatory images to pedophiles. My first question is why someone would need to do this. There are much easier ways to get pictures of children. All you have to do is use Google’s image search and you can find millions of pictures of kids.

Perhaps the even bigger question is why pedophiles would want more pictures of fully clothed children when they can get pedophilia pornography through illegal distributors. I suppose using Facebook would help them stay within the law, but, at the same time, what’s the point. Really, if someone gets off on completely innocent images of fully dressed children, then there’s nothing that you can do to stop them from using the pictures as they want. If you are worried that some unknown person out there in the world is using pictures of your family, then you’re best defense isn’t to avoid sending the images to a certain organization. The only protect is to keep the images off the internet. Otherwise, they’re there for the taking.

The problem with hoaxes like this is that it undermines the very serious topic of pedophilia. There are people in the world who have been devastated by pedophilia and child pornography. I know that the people sharing the above hoax aren’t intentionally making light of these problems, but they are crying “wolf” whether they know it or not.

  1. Hi, I wanted to know if you know if the FB group Don’t Allow Sex Offenders on Facebook is a hoax. They keep sending me traumatizing graphic descriptions of children being molested and murdered in the sickest ways– even though I “left the cause” for that reason months ago. I posted something about this on FB and a friend directed me to this site. Thanks.

    • I don’t know if it’s a hoax or not, but they certainly sound unpleasant. If you feel that they are harassing you, you should report them. Seriously, they sound like they’re the ones with the problem.

  2. Thank you! That helps.
