No faith in Facebook

“attention all……. don’t use status shuffle any more….. 2 trojan worms 1 banker virus and 2 other virus’s….. NOT A JOKE!!!!!! please repost this to warn all ur fb friends”

Personally, I think that Status Shuffle is annoying. But that’s not really the point of this blog. To point is to spot Facebook hoaxes that you should either keep a close eye on, or reject because they are ridiculous drivel. This one falls into the latter category.

If you don’t know what status shuffle is, then you can read about it on this Facebook page.

This is one of those rumors specifically designed to get people worked up about nothing. Although Status Shuffle is not developed by Facebook, the application is distributed through Facebook. This gives Fb some amount of control over the app’s content. I have doubts that Fb is okay with an application that secretly contains five separate viruses.

You can spot this as a hoax because it is absurd. The moment that someone found one virus in the app, it would be shut down. That’s not to say that some applications don’t sneak through the security gates. There are apps that perform unwanted tasks and contain malware. That’s why you should  always be careful when downloading apps for your Facebook page, browser, phone, or any other device.

But FIVE malicious programs! That’s unprecedented. Even if Facebook was too busy violating your privacy rights to catch one of the five, it wouldn’t take long before someone realized that something very serious was wrong.

As far as I can tell, Status Shuffle is an annoying, but entirely safe, app.
