Stop Sending Me All This Spam!

Facebook hoaxes spread in numerous ways. If all of those ways were mean-spirited, then it would be easier to shut down the rumor mill. Most of the time, though, hoaxes get spread through friends and relatives who have their hearts. They want to make sure that you don’t accidentally download THE WORLD’S WORST VIRUS EVER, RARRRR! , so they send you every post that they see about it.

Some of us happily tell these relatives and friends to stuff it. The rest of us, though, are a little more respectful. Still, you don’t want countless posts about piranha in the local river and child molesters living right across the street. Essentially, you have to tell these people to stuff it in a way that won’t totally offend them.

Facebook makes it easier than you think. If you’re the kind of person that wants to help others save face, then you could send the biggest offenders notes that thank them for their concern and explain that you don’t want anymore emails about death panels and birth certificates. That way, you can save everyone from these annoying messages.

On the other hand, you might just want to build a protective wall around yourself. In this case, you can just instruct your Facebook wall not to show wall posts from those who constantly send out hoax emails. You’ll still get personal messages from them, but you won’t have to read all of the nonsense.

That can cut down on the amount of tripe that you see on a regular basis. It won’t save the virtual world from hoaxes, but it might save your sanity.
