McDonald’s Chain to Include Surcharge to African-American Customers

This just in:

As an insurance measure due in part to a recent string of robberies, African-American customers are now required to pay an additional fee of $1.50 per transaction

A picture of this sign has actually been around for quite some time, but it only recently picked up steam on Facebook. Once it did, it really moved, creating outrage amongst gullible people of all colors.

This has to be one of the most ridiculous hoaxes that I have ever seen. It almost stretches beyond a hoax and enters the realm of social criticism. The fact that so many people believed this rumor shows that society is just screwed up enough that this is (even remotely) feasible. When I first saw this, it was like reading an Onion article. I immediately cracked up. It was just so absurd that it didn’t even occur to me that some people would think that McDonald’s was really implementing such a policy.

The humorous aspect, however, died quickly when I realized that the social criticism had done its job better than I would expect. As it turns out, not everyone was outraged by the hoax. In fact, some people actually supported the idea, saying that African-American customers deserved to pay more because they were (somehow) responsible for robberies. Oh, people, you really can be a great disappointment at times.

Thankfully, most people who didn’t know this was a joke were angry. The response was definitely negative. I just hope that those supporting the idea are receiving some kind of medical care for their obvious mental health issues.
